Runway Fashion Show - John Galliano Fall Winter 2003

Galliano outdid himself once again in this couture collection for fall winter 2003, showing theatrical vintage with rock-and-roll slash Parisian chic aesthetics.

The show opens with a green tailored costume-sleek asymmetric dress with emphasis on golden motifs with red heels, creating a feeling of comedy and pleasantness. Following the first piece are a red ruffled dress made in wool, a fur covered yellow dress with a high hat, a blue bow top with a black skirt, a red dress in silk, a black and grey striped tailored dress. Silk and wool mix with each other to create a harmonious bath of drops of colors, textures and materials.

The main tones and palette used is red/blue/green/gold beige with textures such as ruffles and silk, motifs that make the designs seem more sophisticated and complex.

As the show progresses, it descends into nude tones with more chic staples. A more bourgeois chic playful style, suitable for those living or vacationing in Paris. The hues are beige and pink. Some play and experimentation with crochet. An underwear body shape crafted in the silk pink.

The hats are always on top of the head and high sometimes with a feather or decoration on top. A large cape hiding the figure, an elegant thin silhouette with emphasized cleavage with flower costumes tailored to highlight the figure make the show seem an ode to femininity, sensuality and creativity flowing in the body. A clown makeup with heavy makeup and thick brows; a black floral autumn dress concealing a thin figure transcends the ordinary and make the show seem at the same time grotesque like a circus and refined like a fresh breath of air. Transparent materials in floral patterns and thick heavy black materials are used in the process to augment the dimension of the show. A green revealing dress in a tartan green fabric in a sheer and thin style like Vivienne Westwood, as was the heart in a cardigan also earlier. It was reminiscent of McQueen silhouette with the huge black red dress, a black tailored costume with the side decorated like a structured fan showing the concept of metaphorical Death and gothic color palette, with the finale piece is a white bow piece with a huge coat in white, like snow white and crystals. 

The risky but talented approach that Galliano shows in his designs is one that combines eccentricity, classic taste with a craftsmanship in every of his clothes that demonstrates his unique sense of style of fashion for the runway.
